ISLAMABAD: The admissions in various disciplines at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) for Autumn 2016, will begin from August 1.
The last date for submission of admission forms will be September 5. AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui has approved an admission plan that includes setting up prospectus sale points at its main campus, regional and coordinating offices throughout the country.
The admissions forms and prospectuses could be obtained from the sale points at the university’s main campus, 44 regional campuses and around 100 coordinating offices in various parts of the country, including Azad Kashmir and northern areas.
As per directives of vice chancellor, prospectus and admission forms of all programmes would also be available at the university’s website www.aiou.edu.pk.
The university admission department has also been advised by the vice chancellor to provide maximum facilities to the applicants in taking admission in their desired discipline as well as ensuring availability of admission forms at nearest places.
He also advised all regional directors to set up special camp at their offices for the guidance of the students.
According to AIOU Admissions Director Syed Ziaul Hasnain, admission forms along with the required fee can be submitted at the nationwide branches of First Women Bank, Bank Alfalah, Allied Bank and at the designated branches of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Muslim Commercial Bank (MCB).
The detail of designated branches is available in the prospectuses as well as in the regional offices.
The admission of PGD would be offered in Islamic studies (General), Islamic studies (Quran and Tafseer), shariah, chemistry and Classes will be held in Islamabad only, Iqbal studies, Urdu, mass communication and Pakistani languages and literature.
The admissions of MS and M Phil will be offered in Islamic studies (General), Islamic studies (Quran and Tafseer), Arabic, chemistry, community health and nutrition, Iqbal studies and mass communication.
The admission of MSc will be offered in economics, Pakistan studies, gender and women studies, statistics, bridging semester for MSc statistics, while the admissions of MCom in accounting and finance would also be offered.
Similarly, the admissions of MBA will be offered in HRM, marketing, IT, banking and finance and rural management.
The admissions of master would be offered in Arabic, Islamic studies and Urdu while the admissions of postgraduate diploma would be offered in gender and women studies, (Human Resource Management) HRM, dietetics for dieticians and nutrition for physicians.
The admissions of associate degree are being offered in tourism management, hotel management, hospital management, accounting and finance, banking and finance, Human Resource Management, IT management and marketing management.
The admissions of PTC programme are also being offered under teacher training programme.
The AIOU admission director said that under BA programme, BA (General), B Com, mass communication, BLIS, BS programme (4 year) and BS (Computer science and intermediate admissions will include FA (General), I.Com, FA (Darse Nizami).
Similarly, the Matriculation, short term educational programmes and French online admissions will also be offered in the forthcoming semester.

On a separate note, Allama Iqbal Open University will conduct final exam of Matriculation, FA and BA programmes for Pakistanis settled in Middle East and other countries from July 24.
These exams will take place in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Oman and Bahrain, said spokesman of the university on Sunday.
The exams centres have been set up in all these countries through Pakistani missions abroad, whereas the roll number slips to all the enrolled students have been sent at their given addresses, a spokesman said. The date sheet and roll number slips have also been placed at website Overseas@aiou.edu.pk, he added. He said the students abroad could contact for further information from AIOU Directorate of Overseas Education and E-learning in Islamabad, at following phone number 92-51-9250140 or e-mail overseas@aiou.edu.pk.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the university has recently taken various steps to upgrade its education programmes for its overseas students.
On the directives of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui, the directorate was also trying to provide best possible services to these students through the support of foreign missions abroad.
