KARACHI – The national accountability bureau (NAB) has started investigations on embezzlement of public money and corruption in Sindh Irrigation Department.
The NAB has initiated investigations on complaints from the people and the corruption in the department might prove one of the biggest scam in Sindh’s history.
The NAB with the initiation of investigations has started obtaining record of private property worth billions of the officials of the department made from the money they had obtained through massive scale corruption and embezzlement of public money.
The NAB has started obtaining details of property of the officials that includes gas filling stations, shopping plazas, restaurants, hotels, bungalows and other types of property made from that looted money.
According to sources, the NAB might arrest some high cadre officials of the Irrigation department. In this regard, the Sindh Irrigation Department secretary, who looks after the financial matter of the department and the budget, has variety of private business for which the section officer of the Irrigation department plays a role of his front man.
It is also learned that the secretary prepares all schemes and designs of all schemes, which are offered to private contractors of fake companies that are owned by the section officer as front man of the secretary. Normally, all contracts are given to three contractors for 40 per cent commission.
It is also learned that the secretary also has the charge of chief Engineer ROBD and the previous schemes have been revised by three hindered fold. Both the Secretary and the Section Officer have made property in names of their relatives.
Recently, the Irrigation Department has approved a tender for 20 tube wells and these tune wells would only serve the Secretary and the Section Officer through irrigating their agri land. Sources have disclosed that the NAB might soon start a crack down on corrupt officials and would arrest them.
